Kama McKenzie
Trustee
Kama benefited from mentoring twice in her youth, as a result she believes passionately in the difference a mentor can make to enable a young person to reach their full potential.
Starting her 20+ year career working with children and young people for Connexions Kent and Medway, she went on to train as a youth worker for Kent County Council. In 2006 she founded a Voluntary Organisation providing a network of social support groups to young families. With the sponsorship of the Princes Trust, she founded a Social Enterprise to provide bespoke peer led education packages in 2010.
Kama specialises in the development and leadership of young people’s services, with experience of development of mental health, substance misuse, family support, participation and young carers services. Within Kama’s current role as Operations Manager for Prevention for Children’s Services she also takes a lead in young carer policy development and training social care professionals.
Kama is enthusiastic about volunteering particularly ensuring good governance; she is currently a community representative on the Glastonbury Town Deal Board alongside being the newest member of the PROMISEworks Trustee Board. In the past she has been a Chair of Governors, Safeguarding Governor, a Restorative Justice Conference Facilitator and been involved in many other community activities.
Kama studied Social Sciences on a social policy pathway with Open University.
Her three sons are her pride and joy.
